NAIP-UNCTAD conference to focus on investment, post-pandemic economic recovery

MINSK, 22 July (BelTA) - Attracting investment and economic recovery after the pandemic will be discussed during the online international investment conference “From Recovery to Sustainable Growth” on 31 July, Dmitry Krasovsky, director of the Belarusian National Agency of Investment and Privatization (NAIP), told reporters in Minsk on 22 July, BelTA has learned.

The conference has been organized by NAIP with the support of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). It will be held from 11:00 till 14:00 Minsk time. “We have gone online amid the pandemic. On the one hand, this is a problem, and on the other hand, this format encourages us to test some technical innovations, including marketing innovations. It is difficult for some participants to find two or three days in their schedule to attend the forum. It is much easier when the matter is about three hours for an online conference. More than 160 participants from 26 countries have registered for the forum as of today. Six days are left until the registration closes," said Dmitry Krasovsky. It is available at https://conference.investinbelarus.by/.

The conference will be live streamed won social networks. The NAIP will also post a recording of the conference. Thus, the organizers are hoping to attract an audience of several thousand people.

Representatives of the state, heads of companies and international experts will use two thematic panel discussions to look into investment opportunities of Belarus in the context of post-pandemic economic recovery, companies' experience of working n Belarus with a view to the potential of the EAEU markets, and also current global and regional trends, current and future challenges in attracting investments and possible effective tools to overcome them. “We expect representatives of the Belarusian government, the Eurasian Economic Commission, UNCTAD, and the Executive Committee of the World Economic Forum to speak at the event,” the director of NAIP added.

According to Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs of the House of Representatives Andrei Savinykh, the conference will showcase Belarus' investment attractiveness under new conditions. “The online format opens new opportunities, new forms of work. This format can be used to host events with different countries. Investors are busy people, they make decisions, analyzing dozens of projects and dozens of countries at once. They interact actively, feel the situation and, visit the country if they see this can bring profits. In my opinion, this technology of attracting investors is effective,” he believes.
