MP: Belarus, China committed to expanding economic cooperation

MINSK, 31 May (BelTA) - Belarus and China are committed to deepening and expanding trade and economic cooperation, Chairman of the Standing Commission on Economy, Budget and Finance of the Council of the Republic Vladislav Tatarinovich, a member of the Belarusian parliamentary delegation, told reporters, BelTA has learned.

On 27-30 May, the Belarusian parliamentary delegation led by Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova made an official to the People's Republic of China. The program of the visit was extensive and eventful.  Meetings were held with Vice President of the People's Republic of China Han Zheng, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China Zhao Leji, President of the All-China Women's Federation Shen Yiqin. The Belarus-China High-Level Interparliamentary Cooperation Committee convened for its first meeting. Belarusian MPs also visited social infrastructure facilities in Beijing.

"The agenda was very rich, and most importantly, the delegation was received at a high level by the leadership of the People's Republic of China and the National People's Congress. It is clear that the main task is to cultivate interparliamentary cooperation between the parliamentarians of the Republic of Belarus and the People's Republic of China. But, given the nature of relations between our countries - comprehensive and all-weather strategic partnership, the agenda was not limited to issues related to the parliamentary and legislative activities. A lot of attention was paid to bilateral ties, international cooperation and economic interaction," Vladislav Tatarinovich said.

Belarus-China economic cooperation has gained momentum, the MP noted. "Last year mutual trade exceeded $8 billion. The parties note the positive dynamics but are set to promote bilateral relations, look for new points of growth and actively develop our joint project - Great Stone Industrial Park," he stressed. "Both members of the Belarusian delegation and our colleagues, who took part in the discussion of these issues on behalf of the People's Republic of China, reaffirmed commitment to deepening and expanding trade and economic cooperation."
