MINSK, 15 October (BelTA) – The trade and economic cooperation in the Commonwealth of Independent States has a big potential which must be fully utilized, Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita said at the session of the CIS Heads of State Council on 15 October, BelTA has learned.
“It is important for us today to prepare the Commonwealth of Independent States for modern realities and challenges. The CIS can become a more efficient and successful association if we focus on the improvement of living standards of our people,” Natalia Gavrilita said.
In her opinion, the CIS has a big untapped potential for the development of trade and economic relations. “Moldova has been consistently speaking about the importance of lifting barriers in mutual trade within the framework of the existing mechanisms in the CIS. We appreciate the opportunities given by the free trade zone, and we want this zone to be truly free from trade restrictions,” the Moldovan head of government said.
In response to the speech of the Moldovan prime minister, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko praised the fact that Moldova values cooperation in the CIS and sees big prospects for the enhancement of versatile cooperation in spite of everything that has been said about the policy of the new leadership of the country. “You have determined priorities, and Belarus fully supports them,” the head of state assured.
