MINSK, 14 February (BelTA) - We set some development goals for the microelectronics industry up to 2040, Belarusian Industry Minister Aleksandr Yefimov told the media following the meeting to discuss the prospects for the Belarusian microelectronics industry development held by Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 14 February, BelTA learned.
Aleksandr Yefimov pointed out that the program for the development of the microelectronics industry in Belarus envisages the implementation of seven investment projects. "All the projects are running ahead of schedule. The financing volume exceeds Br1 billion. We considered at least five more new investment projects in the microelectronics industry. The amount of resources has also been determined: several hundred million more Belarusian rubles. The funds will be found, the areas of investment have been determined. This will give start to brand new projects for the microelectronics industry,” the industry minister noted.
As for competition in microelectronics, Aleksandr Yefimov explained that each manufacturer competes in its own niche. In this respect, Belarus feels quite confident in its niche and intends to expand the product line-up. “Our products are quite modern, meet high requirements, and ensure safe operation in the areas of application. Therefore, we are confident about our foothold in the sales markets and our prospects. We are optimistic about our prospects,” the minister said.
He also drew attention to the topic of creating modern means of production for the microelectronics industry. “We are actively developing this sector as well. We are also implementing a lot of investment projects to get quite high results in terms of fundamentally new design standards for integrated circuits. Of course, we are considering all issues as a whole,” Aleksandr Yefimov noted.
"Taking into account that microelectronics is quite an important sector of Belarus' economy and mechanical engineering industry as a whole, we paid a lot of attention to this area. The meeting outlined the following key tasks: to accelerate new advancements in microelectronics and further localization and import-substitution to ensure full sovereignty of Belarus and Russia in microelectronics," the minister said.

He stressed that recently the government has approved a program for the development of the microelectronics industry until 2030. "At today's meeting we discussed this matter much more deeply and made certain decisions on the development of this industry up to 2040. Microelectronics is a science-intensive industry, this is why the key decisions made today will allow us to actively develop it not only in the next five years, but also in the next decade," Aleksandr Yefimov said.
The industry's recent achievements help to significantly ramp up production, but we need to find ways to increase these figures, he emphasized. "Despite the fact that we export our products to 14 markets, we need to expand the geography of supplies. We need to step up the output and the number of countries that will consume our microelectronics industry's products," the minister said.
