PETRIKOV DISTRICT, 24 May (BelTA) – Energy security is an absolute priority for Belarus, Energy Minister Denis Moroz told journalists, BelTA reports.
Denis Moroz emphasized that energy is a strategic issue. “We need to strive to increase the share of domestically-produced energy in the energy consumption of the country,” he remarked.
The promotion of the pellet industry in Belarus is perfectly aligned with this goal. After all, this fuel is produced domestically.
“This industry is immune to sanctions and does not depend on external suppliers of energy resources. And this is an absolute priority for us. We have regulations and an energy security concept that says that we need to promote local fuels,” the minister noted.
The Energy Ministry is currently working on three major projects at large energy facilities. New pellet boilers will be built there. This will increase pellet consumption at enterprises affiliated with the Energy Ministry almost 10 times - up to 62,000 tonnes per year.
“Pellets are a more environmentally friendly type of fuel. They are produced from renewable energy. They have a very high calorific value and at the same time very low ash content. As a fuel, they are very effective and have many applications. We need to build up capacity, encourage households to use pellets to heat their homes. This is a nascent industry that has enormous potential,” Denis Moroz said.
The use of pellets allows automating processes. In other words, boilers operate automatically, with virtually no maintenance personnel needed.
