Minister: Energy consumption is on the rise in Belarus

ZHODINO, 28 March (BelTA) – Energy consumption in Belarus increases every year, Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich told the media on 28 March, BelTA has learned.

According to Viktor Karankevich, energy consumption has been on the rise in recent years thanks to the development of electric charging infrastructure and increasing numbers of electric cars and public transport in the country. “The amount of electric energy used by charging stations soared 27% in 2023. We  can see the same positive dynamics this year as well,” he emphasized.

The ongoing pilot projects to introduce electric transport in the regions of Belarus will also contribute to bigger volumes of energy consumption across the country, the minister said.

Zhodino is switching to electric public transport. A solemn ceremony to hand over 14 modern MAZ 303E electrobuses to the local mass transit company took place in the city on 28 March with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister Piotr Parkhomchik.

The energy sector has made its invaluable contribution to the implementation of the project. Necessary works have been carried out to modernize the electricity network, upgrade transformer substations and construct a number of new ones. Nine charging stations for electric vehicles produced by Belselelectrosetstroy have been installed in the city. In accordance with the government decree, all the works were implemented within a short timeframe.
