Manufacturing sector’s share in Belarus’ GDP at 27.5% in 2023

MINSK, 30 June (BelTA) – Manufacturing sector accounts for 27.5% of the gross domestic product of Belarus, BelTA learned from a statistics review of the country’s manufacturing sector in 2023 released by the National Statistics Committee.

According to the statistics agency, the manufacturing sector accounts for 24% of all the employed Belarusians, 0.2 percentage points up from 2022. At present the manufacturing sector employs 893,000 people.

The manufacturing sector’s share in merchandise export increased by 0.5 percentage points to 94.1%. Belarus’ industrial output amounted to Br187.8 billion in 2023, with Minsk Oblast and Gomel Oblast in the lead.

In 2023 the number of industrial organizations increased by 213 units. There were 16,285 manufacturing sector enterprises as of late 2023. Medium-tech enterprises accounted for 33.2% of the gross added value of the manufacturing sector. The share of high-tech enterprises stood at 6.8%, 0.9 percentage points up from 2022. Processing industry accounted for 90.1% of the industrial output. It is followed by electricity generation, provision of gas, steam, hot water, and conditioned air (7%), water supply, waste collection, treatment and disposal (1.7%), and mining industry (1.2%).
