MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) – There are no oligarchs in Belarus and never will be, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he addressed the 6th Belarusian People's Congress in Minsk on 11 February, BelTA has learned.
“Initiatives were made at the dialogue platforms to increase the dependence of workers' income on the financial results of the company. The distribution of dividends or the transfer of a share ownership require an solid legislative framework. It is noteworthy that there are no oligarchs in Belarus today and never will be. Everyone should get what they earn," the president believes.
At the same time, he spoke against one-size-fits-all policy. "Those who can, who have talent and abilities, should earn more. But there should not be a huge gap though,” he added. Aleksandr Lukashenko believes that the rich should support the state and help those in need. According to the Belarusian leader, a big difference between the rich and the poor leads to a disaster and the subsequent collapse of the state.
“I cannot say that our private business, especially in the manufacturing sector, underperforms in this regard. It has gone through all stages together with us, with the state, from formation to development, and today it generates half of the national product. In the difficult year of 2020, the country's manufacturing business showed responsible attitude. I would like to tell you that we are not going to weaken control over the sectors which need monitoring. We should not monitor every producer on a permanent basis, as it would kill any undertaking. Control should be primarily over the payment of taxes,” said the president.
