Lithuanian company builds five biogas power plants in Belarus

MINSK, 28 November (BelTA) – Lithuanian company Modus Energy has built five biogas power plants in Grodno Oblast and Brest Oblast of Belarus, BelTA learned from the PR Vision agency.

The projects were financed by the EBRD and the Bank Moscow-Minsk and were launched in late 2017. Their cost is estimated at $25 million.

The power plants with a total capacity of 5 MW will annually supply about 40 million kWh of net electricity to the grid for domestic consumption. “Belarus is a country promising for biogas energy development, thanks to the size of the market, the rapidly developing livestock sector and also the efforts of the government. Apart from that, the country has a transparent tender system. Investments in biogas-related energy are really attractive here. In this regard, we plan to further develop our activities in Belarus,” Chairman of the Board of Modus Energy Ruslanas Sklepovic said.

Biogas produced from decomposition of biological materials (animal and bird waste, green waste such as mowings, weeds, off-quality fruit and vegetables, and other products of organic origin) will be use to produce clean energy. Such energy sources are considered renewable.

Modus Group is an international group of companies engaged in such areas as renewable energy, car business, property in Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Estonia, Spain, Ukraine and Belarus. Modus Energy has been implemented 11 biogas projects in Lithuania.
