Joint manufactures, agriculture named among priority areas of Belarus-Pakistan cooperation

MINSK, 10 February (BelTA) – Belarus’ cooperation with Pakistan is gaining momentum in various areas, including trade, education, tourism, science and culture, Belarusian Energy Minister Aleksei Kushnarenko told journalists before the eighth session of the joint Belarusian-Pakistani commission on trade and economic cooperation, BelTA learned.

The history of friendly relations between Belarus and Pakistan goes back more than 30 years, since the establishment of democratic relations in 1994. “Cooperation is gaining momentum in various areas, including trade, education, tourism, science and culture. There is mutual interest in exploring opportunities for greater interaction in other areas. During the visit of the Belarusian president to Pakistan in November 2024, a specific task was set to transfer all protocol agreements into practical results and sign relevant agreements and contracts that will help increase bilateral trade turnover,” Aleksei Kushnarenko said.

This year, several important events will take place in the context of Belarusian-Pakistani interaction, the main of which will be the visit of the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Belarus. “We understand the special significance of today's meeting of the commission, which will become a full-fledged platform for discussing concrete steps to intensify our cooperation. Belarus is interested in increasing the supply of industrial products; we are working out options for setting up maintenance centers and joint assembly plants. We will also examine the prospects for electric transportation. Among the priorities of cooperation is agriculture, which includes not only supplies of food products, but also livestock products, seed production, additives and veterinary drugs,” the minister noted.

Belarus is also willing to exchange knowledge and experience in science and technology, education, and professional training. “Belarusian organizations and institutions have something to share with their Pakistani colleagues. We also seek to bolster business cooperation. During the meeting we will consider possible options and mechanisms to promote business partnership and facilitate access to the markets of our countries. All the agreements reached during the meeting and negotiations will be reflected in the protocol,” he added.

The energy minister is confident that the eighth meeting of the Belarus-Pakistan commission for trade and economic cooperation and all the planned events, will give a new impetus to the development of bilateral ties between the two countries in areas of mutual interest.

Minsk is hosting the eighth meeting of the joint Belarusian-Pakistani commission for trade and economic cooperation. A delegation headed by Pakistan's Federal Minister of Commerce Jam Kamal Khan has arrived in Belarus to participate in this event. It also includes representatives of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Commerce and the Board of Investment of Pakistan. The agenda is very rich. The prospects for bilateral cooperation between Belarus and Pakistan across a wide range of areas will be discussed. The Pakistani delegation is scheduled to visit a number of industrial enterprises, and attend a number of bilateral meetings.
