MINSK, 4 March (BelTA) – This year's actual housing construction may exceed projections, BelTA learned from Head of the Housing Policy Office of the Belarusian Architecture and Construction Ministry Aleksandr Avramenko.
As much as 4 million m2 of housing was supposed to be built in 2020 but 4.156 million m2 was actually commissioned. There were plans to build 984,000m2 of housing using state support in 2020 but 1.306 million m2 was commissioned. “We understand that every additional square meter can only benefit our citizens. In 2021 we also intend to commission 4 million m2 of housing, including 1 million m2 with state support. All our organizations are ready to build. We hope we will exceed the figure this year, too,” the official noted.
In his words, in 2020 one square meter of housing built with state support cost Br1,053. “We had to keep the cost of one square meter at Br1,082 at most. It was done. The cost of one square meter was not higher than the average monthly salary. The plans for 2021 specify Br1,152 per square meter,” Aleksandr Avramenko said.
The official also talked about the novelties that will be implemented in housing construction. In his words, citizens that live in major population centers such as Minsk or other oblast capitals can stay on the housing register for a long time. For instance, some people in Minsk have been on the housing register for decades. Legislation is being drafted to allow them to realize their right to housing. People who are on the housing register in one location will be able to apply for housing construction in another area.
