Heavy investments in second Belarusian potash mine expected in 2020

MINSK, 6 September (BelTA) – As much as $400 million will be invested in the construction of the Nezhinsky mining and processing factory in 2020, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Board of IOOO Slavkaliy Mikhail Gutseriyev after a session of the construction project's management team on 6 September.

The businessman said: “If we talk about the overall volume of investments, $618 million has been invested already. Another $400 million will be injected next year. The entire investment will reach $2 billion. We have three years left to build things. It means $400 million will be invested per annum.”

In his words, the construction of the Nezhinsky mining and processing factory proceeds on schedule. Slight delays with the designing side of the project have been fixed.

“Everything proceeds on schedule. The facility will be finished by 2023 as we intended it to,” Slavkaliy's chairman of the board said.

Two shaft boring roadheaders (SBR machines), which are named Ulyana and Olga and operate at the site, have reached the 327 meters mark. Their work has been suspended for the sake of installing tubing supports for waterproofing purposes and in order to ensure steady attachment of the shafts for the duration of the mine's operational life. Routine operations proceed on schedule and will be finished within six months. Shaft boring will recommence after that.

A number of installations have been finished already such as automobile infrastructure, energy system installations, and a site for the temporary storage of materials. Ameliorative systems have been restored. The railway station Urechye has been reconstructed. The construction of a gas pipeline to the site of the Nezhinsky mining and processing factory is nearly over. “We are now in negotiations with Gazprom discussing an increase in gas deliveries,” Mikhail Gutseriyev added.

The Nezhinsky mining and processing factory based on the Starobinskoye potash salts deposit will be the second enterprise in Belarus to mine potash salts and make potash fertilizers. It will be able to make up to 2 million tonnes of potassium chloride per annum. The investment project provides for building one mining facility in addition to a processing plant, a gas turbine power plant for proprietary needs, railway infrastructure, automobile roads, housing infrastructure, and other kinds. IOOO Slavkaliy is in charge of implementing the project. The company is part of Mikhail Gutseriyev's Safmar Group. The construction of the Nezhinsky mining and processing factory began in 2017.
