GRODNO, 10 December (BelTA) – The Belarusian company OAO Grodno Meat-Packing Plant will challenge the decision to prohibit the export of products to the Russian Federation and hopes for a prompt resolution of the problem, the company's Director General Anatoly Grishuk told BelTA.
“Russia's ban on food exports is a serious problem for us. Every month we ship about 1,000 tonnes of meat products to the Russian Federation or 200 tonnes of sausage products and 800 tonnes of beef. Pork exports were banned earlier. With the ban in place, we no longer take more meat, which creates additional difficulties,” said the executive.
The company intends to put meat in cold storage for now although the value of frozen meat is much lower. “It will result in huge losses for the company. We will challenge Rosselkhoznadzor‘s unjustified decision using the established procedure. We have already requested the samples of our products examined by Russia for the sake of carrying out repeated tests but we have been told the samples had been destroyed. We would like the expert commission to visit the enterprise as fast as possible for the sake of taking additional samples. We hope the dispute will be resolved in December,” said the Director General of OAO Grodno Meat-Packing Plant.
On 9 December Rosselkhoznadzor announced that the import of products made by OAO Grodno Meat-Packing Plant to Russia is temporarily on hold. According to the source, an audit in the Russian city of Ryazan revealed the genome of African swine fever virus in samples of sausages made by the Belarusian company. Thus, the products made by the Belarusian company were in violation of veterinary and sanitary requirements of the Customs Union and Russia. The prohibition on the import of products made by OAO Grodno Meat-Packing Plant was enforced on 10 December.
