NESVIZH, 4 June (BelTA) – Government support for the countryside helps ensure food security, especially in the conditions of sanctions, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said as he spoke at the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council on 4 June, BelTA has learned.
“The most important efficiency indicator of Eurasian integration is its ability to address food security issues. Yesterday we discussed it at length at the plenary session. When establishing the EAEU, we sought to limit government subsidies for the agricultural sector. But this is not a significant factor in our coordinated policy. It is necessary to consolidate efforts to eliminate technological and technical gaps in our food security. This is difficult to do without government support,” Roman Golovchenko noted.
He added that Belarus suggested considering the extension of the deadline for adopting commitments in the field of government support for agriculture. “The support for the agricultural industry has largely allowed our country to save the countryside, its production and social potential. We believe that our partners will back the initiative to extend the existing amount of government support for agriculture, especially in view of the sanctions imposed on our country,” the prime minister said.
