Golovchenko: Belarus eager to expand cooperation with Vietnam in banking sector

MINSK, 12 May (BelTA) - Belarus is eager to expand cooperation with Vietnam in the banking sector, Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus Roman Golovchenko said a he met with Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam Nguyen Thi Hong, BelTA learned.

"I am happy to have this opportunity to meet and discuss issues of interaction between the central banks of our countries," Roman Golovchenko said. “We signed a cooperation agreement back in 2009. Last autumn, a delegation of the National Bank of Belarus visited Vietnam and held a number of negotiations with both state and commercial banks.
Roman Golovchenko emphasized that despite the difficult international context, the Belarusian economy has been growing. The volume of investments in fixed assets has been on the rise.

"We have deliberately focused on stimulating investment activity," Roman Golovchenko said. "Our key priority is to ensure balance and stability, including maintaining a stable inflation rate. We have very ambitious plans. With the support of our friends around the world, we intend to continue our strong growth."

According to him, Belarus' banking sector currently consists of 21 commercial banks (16 of which are with foreign share)

Nguyen Thi Hong expressed gratitude for the warm welcome, noting that the State Bank of Vietnam is also interested in strengthening bilateral cooperation.

As it was previously reported, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam is in Belarus on an official visit. The talks between Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and To Lam took place at the Palace of Independence on 12 May. The parties discussed the development of strategic cooperation in key areas of economy, politics and humanitarian affairs.
