MINSK, 20 June (BelTA) – Belarus is ready to offer St. Petersburg favorable terms for purchasing equipment, Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of Belarus Roman Golovchenko said as he met with Governor of Saint Petersburg Alexander Beglov on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, BelTA has learned.
“St. Petersburg is noticeably growing, evolving, and transforming. Belarus has contributed to creating a comfortable living environment in the city, to renewing passenger transport. Thank you for your trust. We are resolving all issues in a routine and constructive manner. It has been very nice to see Belarus-made tram cars today. We are ready to delve deeper into this matter. I know that you are personally supervising this issue. It is clear that the financial situation is not easy now, but this should not hold us back. Moreover, as you have rightly said, lending plays a very important role. Thus, we are ready to offer favorable financial terms for the purchase of Belarusian equipment, as well as various options involving both Russian and Belarusian banks. All these issues are being discussed. I am sure that you will like some of them,” said Roman Golovchenko.
He emphasized that Belarus prioritizes closer cooperation with St. Petersburg and not only in the field of transport. These matters were discussed within the framework of the Business Cooperation Council. “The opening of the Consulate General of Belarus in St. Petersburg is another testimony to our determination to expand our presence here and to have a permanent mission that keeps tabs on the implementation of joint projects,” said the chairman of the Board of the National Bank. Cooperation in humanitarian matters and culture is also on the rise.
Roman Golovchenko noted that the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is a point of attraction for those who want to build mutually beneficial and fair economic relations with Russia. “The fact that the forum is being held in St. Petersburg suggests that the northern capital is Russia's economic powerhouse and the city's administration deserves a lot of credit for this,” the chairman of the Board of the National Bank emphasized.
