MOSCOW, 2 October (BelTA) – Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich does not rule out the possibility of future sales of electricity the Belarusian nuclear power plant will generate to Ukraine. The official made the relevant statement on the air of the TV channel Russia 24 while taking part in the international forum Russian Energy Week in Moscow on 2 October, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian energy minister said: “Everything is possible. At least it is a matter of cooperation of Belarusian and Ukrainian commercial entities. Certain steps have been taken to test electricity sales but it is too early to talk about any specific volume of sales to Ukraine.”
Viktor Karankevich stressed that the launch of the Belarusian nuclear power plant will make the work of power grids in the entire region more reliable. “If there is demand for electricity in neighboring countries, the Belarusian power grid will be able to supply electricity within limits of the technical capacity,” he stated.
