Flax planting in Belarus 85.9% complete

MINSK, 13 May (BelTA) - Belarusian agricultural workers have planted flax on 85.9% of the planned area, BelTA learned from the Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 13 May, early spring crops (including buckwheat and millet) were planted on the area of 692,000 hectares. Planting was done on 97% of the designated area in Brest Oblast, 96.2% of the area in Grodno Oblast, 95.3% of the area in Minsk Oblast, and 92.4% in Mogilev Oblast. Planting in Vitebsk Oblast and Gomel Oblast was completed.

All in all, spring planting in Belarus was completed on the area of 1,745,700 hectares, or 78.6% of the total. Brest Oblast completed planting works on 92.2% of the planned area, Vitebsk Oblast – 80.5%, Gomel Oblast – 65%, Grodno Oblast – 89.6%, Minsk Oblast – 81.1%, and Mogilev Oblast – 62.5%.

Belarusian agricultural workers also continue planting buckwheat (6,620 hectares, or 20% of the plan), millet (2,400 hectares, or 25.3%), flax (42,600 hectares, or 85.9%), sugar beet (91,800 hectares, or 93.2%), annual grasses (148,400 hectares, or 55.7%), vegetables (4,050 hectares, or 65.3%). Potatoes were planted on 17,600 hectares, or 85.6% of the target, maize – on 677,500 hectares, 63.7%.

A total of 1,928,000 hectares of soil (86.8% of the plan) was prepared for sowing spring crops. This year, these crops will be planted on the area of 2,221,900 hectares.
