First vice premier: Belarus makes a key contribution to global food security

LYUBAN DISTRICT, 23 May (BelTA) - Belarus makes a pivotal contribution to global food security, Belarusian First Deputy Prime Minister Nikolai Snopkov told the media on 23 May, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus is a country that influences the world potash market. We are one of the world’s major producers, thus making a powerful, I would say, fundamental contribution to the global food security,” said Nikolai Snopkov.

From this point of view, the construction of the mining and processing plant in Lyuban District is of crucial importance not only for Belarus.

According to the first deputy prime minister, the most important thing in the implementation of any investment project is time. The faster an enterprise or other facility is built, the more favorable it is in terms of financial costs. “The president has set clear objectives, and we have shifted the deadlines [of reaching the design capacity] from 2027 to 2026. Of course, it gives a certain efficiency and ensures cost savings,” Nikolai Snopkov said.

The new mining and processing plant acquires special significance in the context of regional development. It will let Lyuban District develop more efficiently. “Production comes first, and brings about social infrastructure, housing and so on. First of all, people need to have jobs (high-paying jobs in this case). Necessary infrastructure and most comfortable living conditions are developed on this basis,” the first deputy prime minister said.
