MINSK, 9 February (BelTA) – The first phase of the aircraft repair plant is expected to be built on the territory of the National Airport Minsk in 2015, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Transport and Communications Ministry.
“The establishment of the plant at the new premises is among the most promising and important civil aviation projects not only in 2015 but also in the forthcoming years,” the specialists remarked.
According to the calculations done in 2014, the cost of the project to launch the first phase of the equipment which will be purchased via a tender will make up Br130 billion.
In the summer of 2014 the Belarusian Transport and Communications Ministry proposed Boeing to enhance cooperation with Minsk Aircraft Repair Plant. “Our main objective is to make considerable progress in construction. When it happens, the process of negotiations with potential investors (not only with Boeing – BelTA's note) will be intensified,” Transport Minister of Belarus Anatoly Sivak told BelTA earlier.
On 8 February Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee Andrei Shorets told Belarus 1 TV Channel that the Minsk-1 airport which is located in the vicinity of Minsk Aircraft Repair Plant will have been closed by 1 July 2015. “The airport will have been closed by 1 July 2015, the aircraft repair plant will be still operational. Part of the runway will be used for the landing of aircraft under repair,” the chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee said.
Minsk Aircraft Repair Plant has been working for more than 45 years. Specialists of the factory repair Tu-134, Yak-40, Yak-42, Yak-52 aircraft. The relocation and modernization of the plant will allow servicing such Western-made aircraft as Boeing, Airbus, CRG. It is expected that the facility to produce parts for military and civil aircraft will be launched in the first place. It will be one of the main development priorities for the Belarusian aircraft repair industry, alongside with the construction of the technical maintenance and repair of aircraft on the territory of the National Airport Minsk.
