First container train from China to Europe leaves Belarus on integrated timetable

MINSK, 4 November (BelTA) – Belarusian Railways has ensured timely passage and terminalling of the first container train from China to Europe according to an integrated timetable, the company's press service told BelTA.

The integrated timetable is designed to synchronize the time of arrival, transshipment, and switchover via division points and shipments along all sections of the railway with the 1435mm gauge and the 1520mm gauge. The train is travelling from Xi An to Duisburg. It reached Belarus on 2 November 2022. It took Belarusian Railways less than 9 hours to finish transshipping containers from a 1520mm gauge train to a 1435mm gauge train and get the train through customs control and other control procedures at the Belarusian-Polish border. The train left the Brest-North station for Western Europe along a 1435mm gauge rail track on 3 November 2022.

The train is fitted with a GPS beacon powered by the Chinese satellite navigation system Beidou. Clients, whose goods are being transported to Europe, can see where they are in real time.

The project has been implemented as part of the efforts to develop container transportation in association with the railway companies of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, and Western Europe. The integrated schedule for container train traffic between China and Europe will be introduced gradually in order to satisfy logistic needs of clients and improve the quality of service.
