First 40 Belarusian gas-fueled buses enter service in Russia’s Krasnoyarsk

MOSCOW, 16 October (BelTA) - The first batch of natural gas-powered buses manufactured in Belarus has begun operating on routes in Russia’s Krasnoyarsk, BelTA learned from the press service of the Russian region’s governor.

“Today, 40 natural gas-powered buses have started service on routes in Krasnoyarsk. The eco-friendly vehicles were delivered as part of the city's preparations for its 400th anniversary. The new buses will fully replace the vehicles on routes No. 12 (left bank) and No. 19 (right bank),” the press service said.

Krasnoyarsk Krai Governor Mikhail Kotyukov, together with Krasnoyarsk Acting Mayor Roman Odintsov, took a test ride on a new bus. The regional head spoke with the drivers and assessed passenger comfort. “MAZ buses have already proven themselves quite well in Krasnoyarsk. This is a more modern model; it runs on natural gas and is better for the environment... We will continue the public transport renewal program in the region,” he said.

This is the first batch of public transport in Krasnoyarsk to operate on natural gas. The new vehicles are equipped with advanced technologies for passenger safety and comfort. For people with disabilities, the buses feature a kneeling function and a flip-out ramp for wheelchairs, as well as a special passenger information system.

It is planned that 150 natural gas buses will be deployed on routes in Krasnoyarsk by the end of 2025. Similar vehicles have already been delivered to Norilsk and Achinsk.
