MINSK, 27 January (BelTA) – Participation in the presidential election has an impact on Belarus' economic growth, Director of the Institute of Economics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Denis Mukha told BelTA at the Central Election Commission Information Center on 26 January.
“This trend has been in place over the last decades, since Belarus became a presidential republic. When the head of state gained more powers in 1996, everyone saw that the president makes decisions that have a direct impact on the country's economy. The living standards of the entire population depend on economic performance. Economic growth gives the country the capacity to raise wages and pay good pensions and benefits. Therefore, everyone understands that their well-being depends on their vote,” Denis Mukha noted.
“All big economic decisions are extremely important. I think that the traditionally high turnout in Belarus is largely due to the awareness that one's voice is important,” the director of the institute said.
