Expert: Belarus' digital future hinges on advancements in AI

MINSK, 29 May (BelTA) - Belarus' place in the global digital economy depends on the development of artificial intelligence technologies, First Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) Sergei Chizhik said during the scientific and practical seminar "Development of Artificial Intelligence in the Republic of Belarus", BelTA has learned.

“Artificial intelligence has rapidly entered our lives. This innovation is captivating both minds and hearts, especially among the youth, quickly and dynamically, yet with still unknown outcomes. We understand that AI has its place in every sector, including manufacturing industry, precision agriculture, and education. Naturally, we have not remained on the sidelines and made progress across multiple areas. However, this is not just a matter for the Academy of Sciences: many ministries are involved in AI development. We must work together to guide and control the process, ensuring that it advances in the right direction. This is why the seminar's goal is to develop a unified position on organizational, regulatory, legal, and analytical support for AI development and implementation. These technologies will shape the global technological landscape and determine our country’s place in the global digital economy,” Sergei Chizhik said.

The Hi-Tech Park is actively operating in Belarus. The United Institute of Informatics Problems of the NASB is advancing the digital sector of the country. Digitalization is receiving significant attention across various sectors and government agencies. "Scientific breakthroughs in artificial intelligence are happening worldwide. These technologies are already being actively used by both younger and older generations. We are aware of the substantial investments different countries are making in this field, so our actions in this sector must be carefully considered," Sergei Chizhik noted.

The seminar at the NASB served as a platform to discuss key areas, trends, and prospects for AI technology development in Belarus. Topics covered all major aspects of AI growth and implementation, including its applications in education, modern mechanics and mechanical engineering, healthcare, and the IT sector. Special attention was given to global trends in government regulation of AI development and the risks associated with uncontrolled neural networks. Following the seminar, joint approaches will be formulated for the future development of AI in Belarus.
