Eurasian Economic Union urged to remove barriers to commodity flows

MINSK, 26 May (BelTA) – The Eurasian Economic Union should take concerted measures to remove barriers to commodity flows, Belarusian First Deputy Transport and Communication Minister Aleksei Lyakhnovich said during a panel discussion at the Eurasian Economic Forum via a video link, BelTA has learned.

Aleksei Lyakhnovich noted that in the new realities it is necessary to concentrate efforts to lift the restrictions that hamper the building-up of the integration potential of the EAEU. "To reduce the loss of income of enterprises, we need to take concerted measures to remove barriers to commodity flows. Permit-free access should be at the heart of our cooperation in road cargo transportation," he said.

Digitalization of the transport industry is an important area of development, the first deputy minister said. To this end, Belarus has launched a state program that makes an emphasis on the transport sector. One of the stated goals is to develop an integrated platform for the national e-logistics system.

The participants of the event also discussed ways of increasing container transportation of goods by rail and uniform requirements for heavy transport along the common road corridors of the Eurasian Economic Union.
