MOSCOW, 20 August (BelTA) – The Eurasian Economic Commission will suggest the general food security principles to the Eurasian Economic Union member states, Iya Malkina, an official representative of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), told a press briefing on 20 August, BelTA has learned.
“At the next meeting of the EEC Council we will propose to approve the basic general principles and approaches to ensuring food security for the countries of our union," Iya Malkina said. “This document provides for measures to improve the efficiency of agricultural production, minimize the risks of food shortages. In times of some force majeure, adverse events these measures will help the member states to feel safe in this regard.”
Iya Malkina noted that food security is closely related to import substitution. “While working to ensure our own food security we will have to replace certain material and technical resources that are imported by the agricultural industries of our states today,” she said.
