
MINSK, 19 April (BelTA) - In Belarus, electricity consumption by electric vehicle charging stations increased 2.2 times in January-March year-on-year, Belarusian Energy Minister Denis Moroz said at a meeting with the staff of Gomel CHPP-2 of the Gomelenergo energy company, BelTA learned from the ministry’s press service.
The minister said that the number of electric cars in Belarus is growing, and it is not only personal cars of citizens. “The number of electric cars on the roads of the country has exceeded 28,000. The country has created comfortable conditions for the development of e-transport and offers incentive measures. We have built an extensive network of charging stations totaling over 1,400. In terms of this number, Belarus is a leader in the CIS. The number of urban electric passenger transport - modern Belarusian electric buses - is also growing. Now they are used not only in Minsk and regional centers, but also in Zhodino and Shklov. Such a project is under development in Novopolotsk,” Denis Moroz said.
He added that such transportation increases the comfort of living for people and helps to improve the environmental situation by reducing harmful emissions into the atmosphere.
“The total electricity consumption by charging stations in 2024 amounted to 39.6 million kWh and doubled compared to 2023. In January-March this year, electricity consumption by charging stations rose by 2.2 times year-on-year,” Denis Moroz informed. The minister also familiarized himself with the work of the CHPP and prospects for its development.
