Economy minister names priorities for Belarus in 2025

MINSK, 6 March (BelTA) – Economy Minister Yuri Chebotar spoke about the country’s priorities for 2025 at the board meeting of the Belarusian Economy Ministry on 6 March, BelTA has learned.

The meeting identified the priority areas of joint work of government agencies, local authorities, scientific and business communities aimed at sustainable economic development of Belarus in 2025 and in the midterm.

The first priority is strategic planning. “The government has already approved the key document - the National Sustainable Development Strategy 2040. Regulators are finalizing the development of sectoral strategies for the next 10 years. They, in turn, should be the basis for the concept of the next five-year program. Ten national priorities have already been identified. They will further be verticalized into specific state programs. We will appoint a responsible executor for each priority and program, thus personalizing the responsibility,” Yuri Chebotar explained.

The second most important area is investment policy. “Here the main task of regions and government bodies is to find breakthrough projects. For this purpose we will improve institutional conditions and offer affordable financing. Priority is given to greenfield projects and high-tech industries that can give a powerful effect on the economy,” the minister said.

The third area of work is to stimulate entrepreneurial initiative and increase the contribution of small and medium-sized businesses to the economy. “The key task is get rid of red tape, simplify regulatory requirements, reduce excessive administrative burden and maximize digitization of interaction between government agencies and business,” the minister said.


In his speech, Yuri Chebotar also voiced specific tasks related to the social and economic development program until 2030 and the government activities program, the development of systemic measures to support the economy, diversification of exports and strengthening investment cooperation with friendly states, further development of economic integration within the EAEU.

The Economy Ministry board meeting, chaired by the minister, considered the agency’s performance in 2024. The event was attended by heads of the state administration bodies and their deputies, deputy chairpersons of oblast executive committees and Minsk City Hall, senators and MPs, heads of administrations of free economic zones and the Great Stone Industrial Park, heads of major business unions and associations.
