Draft concept of Belarus’ national sustainable development strategy up for discussion

MINSK, 8 January (BelTA) – The Economy Ministry has declared the beginning of a public hearing about a draft concept of the national strategy on sustainable development till 2040, the Economy Ministry press service told BelTA.

Provisions of the national strategy on sustainable development are used to work out development strategies of individual branches of the economy and state planning documents.

The draft concept is based on a systemic approach that explains the development of three mutually related components: the person, the economy, and the ecology.

Five long-term development priorities have been selected on their basis: conservation of people and enhancement of traditional values; quality education geared towards technological development and a new world outlook of the young generation; technological independence and the construction of an intellectual economy; a competitive and accessible business environment, the achievement of a balance of interests of the private sector and the state; ecological safety and resource effectiveness.

The concept of the national strategy on sustainable development till 2040 has been drafted by the Economy Ministry’s Economics Institute in association with the Economy Ministry, including on the basis of proposals of an interagency group and sectoral groups in charge of developing the strategy, on the basis of proposals of government agencies and other organizations.

The document contains the main provisions, which will be later fleshed out, corrected, or augmented in the course of preparing the draft national strategy on sustainable development till 2040.

Remarks and proposals can be emailed to prognoz@economy.gov.by through 21 January 2024.
