Demand for Belarusian agricultural equipment in Kenya on the rise

MINSK, 5 June (BelTA) – Belarusian agricultural equipment is enjoying ever-growing demand in Kenya, counselor for trade and economic cooperation of the Belarusian Embassy in Kenya Roman Kozyr said as he took part in the Road Show seminar ahead of FoodAgro on 5 June, BelTA has learned.

“Demand for tractors and other machines is constantly growing in Kenya as agriculture is the main sector of the country's economy, as in many other African countries. Moreover, in December 2017 Kenya launched a new program of planned economic development through 2022. The program focuses on developing national industry, providing universal health insurance and affordable housing, ensuring food safety. In this light, Belarus can expect an increase in demand for agricultural equipment, fertilizers, and plant protection agents,” Roman Kozyr said.

Kenya is also setting up assembly plants for such equipment. “Kenya is an assembly yard for a lot of manufacturers. It assembles tractor units, tractors, and passenger cars. An official dealer of Volkswagen and Chevrolet in Kenya assembles three Volkswagen car models and is seeking to add Belarusian tractors to its portfolio,”Roman Kozyr said.

Another promising area is the development of meat and dairy industry in Kenya. According to Roman Kozyr, the range of these products is not diverse; this is why Kenya takes interest in setting up meat, dairy, and poultry farms, meat processing and cheese production plants. “In this regard, the upcoming FoodAgro may become a starting point in this cooperation and help promote Belarusian products in Kenya,” he said.

Africa's Prime Food, Hospitality & Agriculture Expo FoodAgro will take place in Nairobi, Kenya on 1-3 August. FoodAgro is part of Kenya International Trade Exhibition (KITE), the biggest exhibition event in East Africa. This year the exhibition will be held for the 22nd time. In 2019, Belarus will debut at the expo.
