Construction of boilers, export of pellets. What Belarus can offer to SCO partners in energy sector

MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) - Belarus can offer its SCO and BRICS partners the export of services for the design and construction of boiler houses using local fuels, Vitaly Kretsky, Director of the Energy Efficiency Department, said at the board meeting to review performance of companies affiliated with the Industry Ministry in 2024, BelTA learned.

The department develops interaction with partners from the EAEU, CIS and the Union State. Work is underway on the Eurasian economic space to include in the regulatory framework such significant areas as energy efficiency growth, steps to increase energy saving and the share of renewable energy sources in the total energy balance.

Much attention is paid to develop sector-wide relations within the framework of integration associations - SCO and BRICS, which are relatively new for the country. “We invited our new partners to develop joint investment projects for the construction of energy sources using local fuels. We also made a proposal to export our services of design and construction of boiler houses on the territory of these states, including the use our fuel. I mean wood fuel pellets,” Vitaly Kretsky said. “Today the country has sufficient production capacities not only to fully meet the needs of the domestic market in this type of fuel, but also to export it.”

Cooperation in energy efficiency is also developed within the framework of the Union State. Belarusian specialists jointly with their colleagues from Russia are working out unified mechanisms in energy management and measures to stimulate energy efficiency in the real sector of the economy.

“The most obvious quick-cost energy-saving measures have practically exhausted themselves. Today it is necessary to introduce new technologies, equipment and materials to move further in this direction. Working to reduce the administrative resource from the state, we give technologists and engineers the opportunity to independently determine areas for energy saving,” the head of the department explained. “As for the stimulating measures determined together with the Russians, the work on them is still underway. These may be tax incentives, reduced interest rates on loans or compensation of part of the interest on loans.”

Vitaly Kretsky added that in 2024 the Energy Efficiency Department developed a draft concept of the Energy Saving state program for 2026-2030, which takes into account the current trends of global development in energy efficiency and the use of own fuel and energy resources. The department was assisted in this work by the UN Development Program office in Belarus.
