CIS Economic Council to convene in Moscow on 29 March

MOSCOW, 26 March (BelTA) – The CIS Economic Council will convene in Moscow on 29 March, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

The meeting will be chaired by Chairman of the CIS Economic Council, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexei Overchuk. The Belarusian delegation is expected to be led by Deputy Prime Minister Igor Petrishenko.

“The heads of the delegations will cover various areas of economic cooperation between the CIS member states,” the press service noted.

A total of 14 issues are listed on the preliminary agenda of the meeting. In particular, members of the Economic Council will review the current state of economic cooperation in the CIS, discuss obstacles in mutual trade and recommendations to eliminate them, as well as the possibility of launching negotiations on access to public procurement.

There are plans to approve draft concepts on promotion of CIS cooperation in chemical industry, hazardous waste management and elimination of objects posing environmental threat. The participants of the meeting will consider a draft protocol on amendments to the CIS cooperation agreement on creation of compatible national telemedicine systems, as well as a number of other issues.

After the CIS Economic Council meeting, the heads of the delegations will take part in the plenary meeting of the CIS International Economic Forum.
