BREST, 12 August (BelTA) – China's Anhui Province has reaffirmed commitment to developing comprehensive cooperation with Belarus' Brest Oblast. Brest played host to a high-level meeting between the regional officials and an Anhui delegation on 12 August, BelTA learned.
The delegation is headed by Zhang Yunsheng, Vice Chairman of Anhui Province's People's Congress Standing Committee. In addition to official meetings with the regional authorities, the delegation is expected to tour key economic sites following official meetings with the Brest regional leadership. “We expect this visit to elevate our relations to new heights and establish a dedicated platform for business engagement between Anhui Province and Brest Oblast,” Zhang Yunsheng noted. “The numbers clearly demonstrate excellent prospects for expanded cooperation between Anhui Province and Belarus, particularly Brest Oblast. There is a tremendous untapped potential and we are committed to strengthening our friendship and deepening bilateral engagements.”

The Chinese delegation presented specific collaboration initiatives during their Brest visit, including plans to expand sister-city partnerships between Brest Oblast and Anhui Province. Currently, such ties exist exclusively between Brest and Hefei (Anhui's capital), Bengbu City and Bereza District. “I fully support the proposals put forward by Governor of Brest Oblast Piotr Parkhomchik to expedite preparation of a 2026-2030 cooperation roadmap,” Zhang Yunsheng stated. "This framework will deepen our multilateral partnership. I further propose strengthening inter-parliamentary exchanges.”
The development of trade and economic relations is also a priority. The Anhui delegation expressed particular interest in the Brest Free Economic Zone. "We hope that this visit will provide comprehensive insights into the FEZ's operating conditions and facilitate concrete business partnerships between Anhui and Brest enterprises. We anticipate comprehensive collaboration in automotive and home appliance manufacturing. We are also interested in setting up a warehouse for products manufactured by our companies in the FEZ. Furthermore, we see significant potential to expand humanitarian cooperation, particularly in education and healthcare,” Zhang Yunsheng stated.
Anhui Province aims to implement joint projects with Brest Oblast. One example is the cooperation of JAC Motors and Brestmash. “With the support of the leadership, this project is developing in leaps and bounds: from four cars produced in 2017 to 900 in 2024. JAC Motors is considering a project to produce low-tonnage trucks on the basis of Brestmash,” Zhang Yunsheng said.
At the meeting, the parties tentatively agreed that a delegation of Brest Oblast will visit Anhui Province in November of this year.
