MINSK, 24 September (BelTA) – The potential for trade between the CIS countries has not been utilized in full, CIS First Deputy Secretary General Leonid Anfimov told journalists, BelTA has learned.
A meeting of the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives of the CIS member states to the statutory and other bodies of the Commonwealth is taking place at the CIS Executive Committee headquarters in Minsk. The permanent representatives will discuss the implementation of the free trade zone agreement as of 18 October 2011.
“We monitor progress to implement this agreement annually. If necessary, we initiate various events where high-level groups can discuss issues related to unjustified restrictions or barriers in trade between the CIS countries. Although a lot has already been done, there is still something to work on. In fact, mutual trade between the CIS countries accounts for only 19% of their foreign trade,” said Leonid Anfimov.
