Call for Belarus, Russia to consolidate to dictate prices for raw commodities on world market

MINSK, 28 July (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia should consolidate and dictate conditions in international markets for the raw commodities they produce, Russia's Perm Territory Governor Dmitry Makhonin told the media after his meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk on 28 July, BelTA has learned.

The head of the Russian region stressed that the economies of Belarus and Perm Territory had a lot in common: both produced significant volumes of potash, with oil refining and machine building playing an important role in the industrial sector. During the visit the Perm Territory delegation is expected to hold a working meeting with Belaruskali Director General Ivan Golovatyi. When asked what will be the subject of discussion during the meeting, Dmitry Makhonin said: “The key task (this is the issue of the Russian government level, but Perm Territory cannot be indifferent) is to make sure that our products, primarily potassium chloride, reach the world markets at the best price for our countries. The challenges that the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus are facing suggest that we need to further consolidate and, in a good sense, dictate conditions in international markets for the raw commodities we produce. Our main task is to encourage the companies to consolidate in this area. We will be talking about these things.”
