Call for Belarus-Russia tighter cooperation to offset aggressive West pressure

MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) – In conditions of aggressive and unjustified political and economic pressure from Europe and the USA it is important to bolster mutually beneficial interaction with Russia. Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Anatoly Sivak made the statement after a session of the council for business cooperation between Belarus and Russia's Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, BelTA has learned.

Anatoly Sivak said that the sides had discussed the advancement of economic cooperation and had sketched out steps to realize the agreements that had been reached. “The conversation that happened about prospects of development of our relations demonstrates that we have common views. We uniformly recognize the need to strengthen mutually beneficial bilateral interaction and have all the prerequisites for joint productive work. An analysis of opportunities testifies that the potential of our cooperation is much larger than the current level of interaction. It should be invigorated through joint efforts,” he stressed.

“It is particularly important taking into account the aggressive and unjustified political and economic pressure, which European countries and the USA have embraced lately,” the deputy prime minister added.

Anatoly Sivak said he was confident that the decisions the business cooperation council had made and the program documents that had been signed would contribute to comprehensive and full-scale advancement of relations between Belarus and Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.

As a result of the council's session an agreement on trade, economic, scientific, technical, and humanitarian cooperation was signed between the governments of Belarus and Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. Zhabinka District of Brest Oblast and Perevoz District of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast signed a twinning agreement. Twenty-four pairs of cities and regions of Belarus and Russia had established twinning ties and partnership cooperation before that.
