Brest Oblast's export to UAE soars

BREST, 22 August (BelTA) – In January-June 2022 Brest Oblast enterprises increased their export to the United Arab Emirates by nearly 2.5 times in comparison with January-June 2021. The figure was mentioned as Brest Oblast Governor Yuri Shuleiko met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates to Belarus Ibrahim Salim Mohamed Almusharrekh on 22 August, BelTA has learned.

Trade between Brest Oblast and the UAE amounted to $1.5 million in H1 2021, with the export growth rate at 243%. In particular, the UAE bought fish, cheese, and furniture.

The ambassador noted: “Belarus is a very important economic partner. It participates in many projects in the United Arab Emirates. We hope that relations between the countries will grow stronger. We will do our best for it.” The UAE private sector is primarily interested in information technologies as well as agribusiness and green energy. “The UAE has a food security program for the period till 2025. We are interested in products, equipment, machines, vehicles and assistance of Belarus with the development of agriculture in our country,” the diplomat noted.

Yuri Shuleiko noted that the ambassador's visit would contribute to the sides sketching out a cooperation strategy. “The relations are sufficiently warm, this is why our interaction in various areas should produce good results. Residents of the United Arab Emirates are already familiar with some of our enterprises. Their products are available in retail chains. We are working hard on starting the manufacturing of the products we used to import. We would like to invite representatives of the UAE private sector to visit Brest Oblast so that we could have a more profound discussion about cooperation opportunities,” the chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee said.

For instance, the Brest Science and Technology Park has several proposals in the area of information technologies for UAE investors. Their presentation for the ambassador will be arranged. Ibrahim Salim Mohamed Almusharrekh will also be made familiar with other projects. The diplomat also intends to visit several enterprises in the region.
