Brest Oblast to sign new agreements at Belarus-Uzbekistan regional forum

BREST, 6 February (BelTA) - Representatives of Brest Oblast are expected to conclude new cooperation agreements at the 2nd Forum of Regions of Belarus and Uzbekistan, BelTA learned from the press service of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee.

“The Brest Oblast Executive Committee has prepared draft action plans for 2024-2025 to implement interregional agreements on trade, economic, sci-tech and cultural cooperation with Sirdario and Bukhara regions. Plans are in place to sign these agreements at the 2nd Forum of Regions of Belarus and Uzbekistan. A cooperation agreement will be signed between Brest Oblast Clinical Hospital and Bukhara Regional Multidisciplinary Medical Center, and a protocol of intentions will be inked between the cities of Brest and Bukhara,” representatives of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee said.

The Brest Oblast delegation, headed by Brest Oblast Vice Governor Dmitry Gorodetsky, has included representatives of the authorities, healthcare sector, and business circles. The priorities for cooperation with Uzbek partners are textile production, road construction, production of bricks, ceramic stones and blocks. The parties are set to discuss cooperation in agriculture and mutual food supplies. Brest also shows interest in buying peanuts, raisins, compote mixtures, apricots, prunes, and spices.

On 8 February, the delegation of Brest Oblast plans to visit Bukhara Region. The program of the visit will comprise meetings with the authorities of the region and the city of Bukhara, discussion of ways to intensify cooperation in various areas.

Cooperation with Uzbekistan is seen as one of the priority areas for the development of foreign economic relations for Brest Oblast. According to the 2023 data, the parties increased mutual trade.

“Brest Oblast enterprises supply their products to Uzbekistan, import Uzbek goods, and also act as investors. Thus, Kobrin-based Polesie, a toy maker, has invested in the construction of a similar plant in Tashkent,” the Economy Committee of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee cited one of the examples. “The agreements between the Brest Oblast Executive Committee and the hokimiyats of Bukhara and Sirdario regions on trade, economic, sci-tech and cultural cooperation, signed at the 1st Forum of Regions of Belarus and Uzbekistan, contribute to the development of interregional cooperation.”
