Brest Oblast outlines ambitious plans for contribution to Union State food security

BREST, 23 October (BelTA) - Brest Oblast is continuously adding capacity to increase its food production volumes, Brest Oblast Vice Governor Mikhail Batsenko said during a press tour dedicated to ensuring the food security of the Belarus-Russia Union State, BelTA has learned.

“Our self-sufficiency level for basic agricultural products exceeds 100% across all categories, including milk by six times, vegetables and potatoes by almost four times, and meat and eggs by almost two times. Brest Oblast leads the country in per capita production of milk, vegetables, fruits, and berries,” Mikhail Batsenko said.

Brest Oblast supplies food not only to the domestic market of Belarus but also exports significant volumes to Russia. According to the vice governor, Moscow and St. Petersburg are two major distribution centers with warehouses. Many enterprises have dealers there who distribute Belarusian food products throughout Russia.

“We are ready to feed everyone, in principle. Our plans are ambitious,” Mikhail Batsenko said. He emphasized that all products are processed within Brest Oblast. Enterprises are currently adding production capacity in Baranovichi, Bereza, and Brest.

“Regarding food products, we are constantly improving and continuously increasing the production of both primary products (milk, meat) and, accordingly, processed goods. It is gratifying that everything we produce is also processed here. We obtain goods with high added value. The production culture is currently at a high level,” said Mikhail Batsenko. He added that processing enterprises in Brest Oblast are rapidly introducing automation and robotic complexes into their production processes.

The press tour of Brest Oblast includes journalists from Russian federal and regional media. They saw the production and sampled products at the Kobrin Butter and Cheese Plant. They visited Belovezhsky, one of the leading enterprises in Brest Oblast, and were impressed by the natural beauty of the Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park.
