BREST, 21 April (BelTA) – Brest Oblast and China's Liaoning Province are interested in building cooperation in  pharmacology, shipbuilding, machine tool engineering, plant growing and other areas, Brest Oblast Deputy Governor Mikhail Batsenko told journalists following the trip of the Brest Oblast delegation to China, BelTA has learned.

“I would like to give a general assessment of the cooperation between Brest Oblast and China. Our trade grows year to year. In 2024 it expanded by 3.9%. China accounts for 11% of our foreign trade. If we talk specifically about Liaoning Province, we have established contacts quite recently, and we have already exchanged visits. We have hosted delegations from this Chinese province twice. We have also visited Liaoning Province two times; we have toured enterprises and signed agreements with our partners,” said Mikhail Batsenko.

The recent visit took place on 14-18 April and was described by the Brest Oblast deputy governor as productive. In particular, contracts worth 320 million yuan were concluded. Savushkin Produkt and Brestmyasomolprom signed agreements with Chinese partners. An investment memorandum was inked between the National Research and Treatment Center for Transfusiology and Medical Biotechnology and companies from China.

“A plant for the production of albumin and immunoglobulin is being built in Gantsevichi, the only one of this kind in the CIS. This will be a unique enterprise. We will expand it and create a whole cluster there. We will process alcohol, a byproduct of manufacturing albumin and immunoglobulin. This will allow us to save about $2 million annually. We will make bags for blood plasma and for blood in general,” said Mikhail Batsenko.

Agreements have been reached between the Pinsk Shipyard and shipyards located in the city of Dalian. Chinese specialists are set to visit the Belarusian enterprise soon to assess the possibility of building ships in Pinsk. The project is of interest to both Belarus and Russia.

While in China, the Brest Oblast delegation also visited the Liaoning Academy of Agricultural Sciences. The parties identified common interests across a number of areas. “We are very interested in mushroom production. We produce oyster mushrooms and champignons, but China grows many types of mushrooms that are healthy and that can also be produced here. We need to develop flower production. We have the Nakhodka Polesia farm that grows tulips. And our forestry enterprises can produce more types of flowers. The third area of cooperation is growing corn that has huge cobs. This product would be highly useful for the forage industry of Brest Oblast,” the deputy governor said.

During the visit, the Brest Oblast delegation focused on the industrial sector, visited processing complexes and enterprises producing machine tools. “There are certain agreements on localizing production in Belarus. Perhaps, we will  do it in the city of Baranovichi, because it has the necessary technical specialists. Maybe, it will be in the free economic zone,” added Mikhail Batsenko.

Brest Oblast would like to invite Chinese partners to invest in the upgrade of the Berestye greenhouse complex and construction of additional greenhouses using new technologies on its premises. In addition, Brest Oblast is considering the possibility of creating another greenhouse complex to ramp out the output of vegetables and greens.
