MINSK, 21 May (BelTA) - Since the connection to the national grid, the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP) has generated almost 45 billion kWh of electricity, Belarusian Energy Minister Denis Moroz said at a meeting with the staff of the Stolbtsy Power Grids branch of the Minskenergo enterprise on 21 May, BelTA learned from the press service of the Energy Ministry.
“Since the connection of the first power unit to the national grid, the total electricity output of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant has approached 45 billion kWh. This has made it possible to replace about 11 billion cubic meters of natural gas. Since the start of 2025, the nuclear power plant has already generated 6.3 billion kWh. We expect that this year we will exceed the target of 50 billion kWh,” the minister said.
The BelNPP gave a powerful impetus to the growth of electricity consumption both by the real sector of the economy and by households, primarily in those areas where incentive measures are in place. One of them is electric transportation. The minister emphasized that the number of electric cars on the country's roads is growing rapidly and has already reached almost 30,000. “Comfortable conditions have been created in our country for the development of this area. We have developed an extensive network of charging stations, totaling more than 1,500 of them. Belarus is a leader in their number in the CIS,” Denis Moroz said.
In Q1 2025, there is a 2.2-fold increase in electricity consumption by charging stations compared to the same period last year. It amounts to 16.6 million kWh.
The energy minister also got familiar with the reconstruction of the 330 kV Stolbtsy substation. In order to improve the reliability of power supply to consumers, a large-scale reconstruction began in 2021. It envisages the transfer of equipment from 220 kV to 330 kV and the construction of a 330 kV Stolbtsy-Baranovichi overhead transmission line.
The necessary equipment has already been installed at the substation: a 330 kV transmission line has been built, a 125 MVA autotransformer, a 20 MVAr shunt reactor, open switchgears and other power equipment have been installed. Modern high-tech equipment manufactured in Belarus, Russia and China was used. Construction, installation and commissioning works have been completed. Commissioning is scheduled for the end of May 2025.
The Stolbtsy substation supplies power to the Stolbtsy branch of Minsk Motor Plant, a district center with a population of more than 17,000 people, traction substations of the Belarusian Railways, transit of electric power through 330 kV lines from BelNPP to the Baranovichi energy hub, as well as through the 110 kV network to adjacent energy systems.
To commemorate the heroic feat of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, Denis Moroz together with Chairman of Stolbtsy District Executive Committee Denis Kolesen, representatives of the Minskenergo enterprise and the Stolbtsy Power Grids branch laid flowers at the common grave of Soviet soldiers and partisans in Stolbtsy.
