BelNPP generates 28.5bn kWh of electricity

MINSK, 23 April (BelTA) - Since the connection of the first power unit to the unified power grid, the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (BelNPP) has generated 28.5 billion kWh of electricity, which helped replace more than 7.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas, Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich said as he met with the personnel of the Novoyelnya pipe insulation section of Grodnogazstroizolyatsiya, BelTA learned from the press service of the Energy Ministry.

Electricity produced at BelNPP is in demand by the real sector of the economy and households. It is used to step up the development of energy-intensive industries, electrify the housing stock, to build new all-electric apartment houses, and increase the number of electric vehicles in use.

The Energy Ministry continues to consider households’ applications for issuance of technical conditions for connection of electrical installations of individual residential buildings to power grids for the use of electric energy for heating and hot water supply. In Q1 2024 the volume of electricity consumption by households for these needs increased by 1.4 times compared to the same period of 2023.

At the meeting the minister touched upon the topical issues of the country’s social and economic development, spoke about the role of the Belarusian People’s Congress, its composition and powers. The first session of the seventh Belarusian People's Congress will be held on 24-25 April.
