MINSK, 2 July (BelTA) – The Belarusian leather industry reduced exports of semi-finished blue leather (tanned leather) from 45% in 2012 to 10% in 2025. In the autumn of last year we exported only crust or finished leather goods, Tatiana Lugina, Chairperson of the Belarusian state light industry concern Bellegprom, said as she sat down for an interview with the Economy of Belarus Magazine.
“This year, for example, we took part in an exhibition in India’s Mumbai. For the first time we had a single stand featuring our major enterprises such as Mogotex, Orsha Linen Mill, Kamvol, and Baranovichi Cotton Production Association. Following the event we saw that it is feasible to enter the world textile production and sale system. We just need to work on this in a comprehensive way. We analyzed India’s business experience. The country is famous for its cotton fabrics. It buys semi-wool and linen fabrics from Bangladesh, Malaysia and Indonesia and exports finished products (suits, sets, shirts) to the USA and the European Union,” Tatiana Lugina said.
She noted that Bellegrpom enterprises studied India’s market capacity and prices, discussed prospects of cooperation with garment and knitting factories. “We are ready to offer new forms of cooperation to our South Asian partners,” she said.
“We see good opportunities on the markets of India and China for Orsha Linen Mill and Minsk Leather Production Association,” she continued. “Belarusian linen products enjoy steady demand abroad, and this will remain the case in the long term as Orsha Linen Mill is one of the world’s ten largest linen mills,” Tatiana Lugina noted. “Now we are busy consolidating our positions on the geographically remote markets and in the CIS and we keep an eye on the European Union, although this market is overly politicized and unpredictably volatile.”
