MINSK, 14 January (BelTA) – The first stage of the Petrikovsky mining and processing factory will be commissioned in 2021, BelTA learned from Director General of OAO Belaruskali Ivan Golovaty on 14 January.

The CEO said: “It is not a delay. It is on schedule. It is impossible to launch an enterprise and reach the designed output capacity right away: once it is commissioned in 2021, the enterprise will need three years to reach the designed output capacity.”

So far about $690 million has been invested in the construction of the Petrikovsky mining and processing factory. Plans have been made to invest another $200-250 million this year.

The CEO said that Belaruskali is capable of making 12.9 million tonnes of fertilizers per annum. Once the Petrikovsky mining and processing factory is commissioned and has reached the designed output capacity, Belaruskali will be able to make up to 15.5 million tonnes of fertilizers.

Speaking about Belaruskali's performance in 2019, Ivan Golovaty said that the company exported about 90% of the output. The domestic market received 10%. The company's workload has been temporarily reduced to about 75% for now.

The construction of the Petrikovsky mining and processing factory is Belaruskali's largest investment project. The project provides for building a mine and a sylvinite beneficiation plant. The Petrikovsky mining and processing factory will be able to make 1.5 million tonnes of potash fertilizers per annum with an option to raise the output to 3 million tonnes. The enterprise is expected to make 300,000 tonnes of fertilizers in 2020 and 800,000 tonnes in 2021. The enterprise will reach its designed output capacity of 1.5 million tonnes of fertilizers per annum in 2023.

The public joint-stock company (OAO) Belaruskali is one of the world's largest producers and exporters of potash fertilizers. The company comprises four mine administrations, auxiliary and support divisions.
