Belarusian Transport Ministry working on signing new agreements on transportation by road

MINSK, 21 October (BelTA) – Belarus intends to sign agreements on international transportation by road with a number of countries, BelTA learned from Andrei Gladky, Head of the Automobile and Urban Passenger Transport Office of the Belarusian Transport and Communications Ministry, during a press conference timed to Day of Motorists and Road Workers.

Andrei Gladky said: “An agreement was signed with Oman in October. A ratified agreement with Pakistan is about to come into force. We are also working with our colleagues from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, with Qatar, Iraq, Kuwait, and other countries.”
In his words, the main task is to provide Belarusian shipping companies with a sufficient number of permits. “We constantly hold sessions of mixed commissions to negotiate increases in quotas of permits. Within the framework of these events we talk about scrapping the permit-based system and switching to a permitless one. We see great prospects. It will give a certain nudge to the development of the shipping industry. It will allow creating maximum comfort, seamless transportation, and reducing the cost of freight delivery for the end consumer,” the Transport and Communications Ministry representative added.

He remarked that automobile freight carriers decently handle challenges outside the country. Most of the work is projected onto countries of the Asian region. In turn, the Transport and Communications Ministry does its best to help redirect deliveries.

“This work is very important. Despite the rather complicated conditions we’ve managed to preserve worker collectives, provide a decent level of wages,” Andrei Gladky said.

A total of 47 agreements on matters concerning passenger transportation and freight transportation by road have been signed with other countries.
