Belarusian tractor maker MTZ joins Russia's Far East agriculture program

MOSCOW, 29 June (BelTA) – The Belarusian tractor manufacturer MTZ has joined the Russian government program on agriculture in the Far East, BelTA learned from MTZ Director General Fyodor Domotenko during the fourth Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia in Moscow on 29 June.

The MTZ CEO said: “We are taking part in the Far East Hectare program. The MTZ Siberia trading house does that.”

According to the source, MTZ exports 62% of the output to Russia. “Generally speaking, we see no competition in Russia. We work our part of the market, supplying tractors with the engine output of 220-450hp,” said Fyodor Domotenko.

MTZ sells over 170 tractor models and 220 modifications to Russia. As many as 150 Russian companies are part of MTZ's manufacturing cooperation schemes. “For all intents and purposes, 80% of the components we use come from Russia. This is why our tractors are Belarusian-Russian ones,” concluded Fyodor Domotenko.

The law on Far East hectares has been in effect in Russia since 1 June 2016. Among other things the law allows Russian citizens to get state-owned land plots for free in the Far East Federal District. A special website is available for choosing those land plots. A land plot cannot be larger than one hectare per person. Moving to the Far East to get the land is not required. The right to get a Far East hectare of their own will be available to Russian citizens till 1 January 2035.
