Belarusian timber export on the rise

MINSK, 30 November (BelTA) – Enterprises run by the Belarusian Forestry Ministry are expected to increase the volume of export of sawn timber in 2018 to over 3 million m3, BelTA learned from Belarusian First Deputy Forestry Minister Valentin Shatravko on 30 November.

In 2017 the export of sawn timber rose by 50% from 2016 to over 2.3 million m3. “The trend continued into this year. The export of sawn timber is on the rise and, according to our estimates, will exceed 3 million m3,” the official said.

Valentin Shatravko reminded that the export of unprocessed round timber has been forbidden in Belarus since 2016. The head of state authorized the export of some round timber in the last few years in the wake of natural catastrophes. This year all the timber has been processed inside the country for the sake of exporting products with a high added value.
