Belarusian steel mill BMZ plans new deliveries to Italy

GOMEL, 21 May (BelTA) – The Belarusian steel mill BMZ is building up cooperation with Italian partners. Agreements on new deliveries have been reached, BMZ Press Secretary Aleksandr Olesik told BelTA.

A number of agreements were reached by a delegation of the Belarusian production sector after a series of effective negotiations with various companies and agencies in Italy's north. The delegation included First Deputy Industry Minister Sergei Gunko and BMZ Director General Dmitry Korchik. Agreements on cooperation were signed as a result of these meetings, including agreements that envisage larger deliveries of BMZ products.

During the visit to Trieste major agreements were signed on selling products in 2022, including seamless pipes and round bars meant for automobile engineering and production of bearings. Agreements were reached with a leading manufacturer of bearings on the development of Minsk Bearings Plant, which belongs to the holding company BMC. Negotiations on deliveries of reinforcing bars were held with a major construction company that works all over the world. A fruitful meeting with representatives of banking structures took place. As a result of the meeting funding will be allocated to the BMZ for export operations and investments.

The sides exchanged proposals on joint work. For instance, representatives of the chamber of commerce and industry of the Venezia Giulia area expressed interest in cooperation with the BMZ and other Belarusian industrial enterprises. The administration of the free port of Trieste suggested alternative ways of delivering BMZ products to Italy. The sides agreed that the realization of initiatives will be discussed during a reciprocal visit. A major delegation representing Italian business circles will visit Belarus to examine opportunities for commercial cooperation, credit and investment cooperation, and manufacturing cooperation.

Italy is one of the top 10 importers of Belarusian metal products. In January-April 2021 BMZ export to Italy exceeded $12 million, 134% as against the same period of last year. The export of seamless pipes and wire for high-pressure hoses demonstrated the highest growth in physical terms and monetary terms.
