MINSK, 17 March (BelTA) – Technical amendments will be introduced into the intergovernmental agreement on supplying Russian natural gas to Belarus, the press service of the Belarusian Energy Ministry told BelTA.
The press service said: “News about forthcoming negotiations on amending the intergovernmental agreement on supplying Russian natural gas to Belarus and news about the signing of the relevant protocol have caused many questions in mass media. This is why we would like to explain that the planned adjustment will be technical and is necessitated by the need to legally flesh out the decisions made as a result of the negotiations of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Vladimir Semashko and Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich with PAO Gazprom Chairman of the Board Aleksei Miller in St Petersburg on 24 December 2020.”
The Energy Ministry press service explained that as a result of that meeting Gazprom and the Belarusian government signed a protocol on pricing Russian natural gas deliveries to Belarus in 2021. In line with the international practice of implementing such arrangements the intergovernmental agreement on natural gas deliveries needs to be amended.
