MINSK, 2 May (BelTA) – Belarusian Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin suggested searching for new areas of cooperation with Astrakhan Oblast as he met with Governor of the Russian region Igor Babushkin in Minsk on 2 May, BelTA learned.
Today, the Belarusian president had a productive meeting with the governor of Astrakhan Oblast. The meeting focused on the main set of issues related to cooperation between the parties, Aleksandr Turchin said.

“This is not your first visit to Belarus. Your opinion on the new prospects, horizons and areas of cooperation with the Republic of Belarus is actually very important to me,” the prime minister said as he addressed Igor Babushkin.
Supplies of Belarusian machinery to the Russian region and increasing the volume of transshipment of Belarusian cargo through the Astrakhan ports are promising, Aleksandr Turchin believes. “But there are other areas in which we could successfully cooperate. Your visit and meeting with the head of state will give impetus to the development of our relationship,” the Belarusian head of government said.
The trade between Belarus and Astrakhan Oblast over the last five years reached a record high of $62 million in 2022. In 2024, the trade amounted to almost $47 million, up by 13% over 2023. Belarusian exports have remained within the range of $12.3 million to $13 million over the past three years.

Belarus’ major exports to the Russian region are lifting, moving, unloading and loading machines and devices, aluminum bars and profiles, timber, cement, concrete and artificial stone products. Astrakhan Oblast supplies Belarus with sulphur, flat-rolled steel and other steel products, fish and tomatoes.
